Biography

Originally from Taiwan, Dr. Jhih-yin “Diane” Lee brings diverse experiences as a schoolteacher, TV program writer/producer, and teaching artist to the University of Kansas as of Fall 2024. As a qualitative researcher, her interests lie in multiliteracies pedagogy, digital visual culture, and social justice. She is particularly attuned to the nuances of multimodal communication. Consequently, her work explores the interplay between text and image, focusing on the multimodal communicative aspects of digital media artifacts.

 

Since 2015, Dr. Lee has taught courses in visual arts, art education foundations, museum education and community engagement, and critical visual culture. Previously, she was an instructor at the University of Georgia and the University of Houston and served as Assistant Professor in Art Education at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI. Additionally, she has worked as a teaching artist and led workshops and community projects for youth and non-profit organizations.

 

Dr. Lee holds an M.A. in Drama and Theater from National Taiwan University and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Art Education from the University of Houston. She earned her Ph.D. in Art/Art Education from the University of Georgia, where she also completed a Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Qualitative Studies as part of her doctoral studies. Her dedication to teaching was recognized with the 2019 Outstanding Teaching Award and the 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award from UGA’s Center for Teaching and Learning.
