Biography

Gina Westergard has been teaching in the Metalsmithing/Jewelry program at the University of Kansas for over twenty-five years.  She has served as Associate Chair, Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies and Director of Graduate Studies for the Visual Art department.  She received her M.F.A. from Indiana University, Bloomington and her B.A. at San Diego State University.  Her work has been exhibited internationally in South Korea, Germany, Australia, Finland, Canada and the United Kingdom.  Her work has also been exhibited nationally throughout United States including Fortunoff, New York, NY; The National Ornamental Metals Museum, Memphis, TN; The California Crafts Museum, San Francisco, CA; and I-Space Gallery, Chicago, IL. Reviews of her work in Metalsmith magazine include "Discoveries Within," Summer 2000 and "Intimate Assemblages," Summer 1997.  Her work was selected for the 2014 and 2009 Metalsmith Exhibition in Print publications and her funerary urns appear in 500 Vessels, Contemporary Explorations of Containment, published by Lark Books.  In addition, she was awarded a prestigious Mid-American Art Alliance/NEA Fellowship.
