Biography

Ekaterina is originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia. Her first education was in Socio-Economic Geography. Just later she received her training in jewelry and metalsmithing. The first jewelry class she did was in Bogotá, Colombia, where she was conducting her thesis research. Now she is working toward her MFA degree in Metalsmithing/Jewelry at the University of Kansas.

Ekaterina's work is concentrated on crochet, felted wool, and embroidered adornment jewelry which speaks for her autobiographical experiences for the past 10 years. At the age of 24, she crossed the Atlantic for the first time. Since then, she has kept moving between Russia, the USA, and Colombia, caring for all her belongings and herself. The exploration of her struggle and growth on this adventure is where Ekaterina's research is going. Her jewelry pieces represent the journey through the lens of nesting and comforting Ekaterina on her travels.

Ekaterina participates in jewelry competitions and shows around the world. Through 2019-2022 she has participated in dozens of shows and group exhibitions, including the jewelry show Author in Romania, the Collectiva competition and a group show in Portugal, and the 9 March Project Feminist Group in Moscow, Russia. Last year she participated in a group contemporary jewelry show of Cluster Contemporary in London.  In the summer of 2023, she was an artist in residence at one of the biggest European jewelry museums of Ilias Lalaounis in Athens, Greece.
