Biography

Driven by the inherent conflict of creating new objects in a world overflowing with "things," Cassandra Liuzzo has grown up to internalize her old Girl Scout maxim “Use Your Resources Wisely.” Many of Cassandra’s processes are based on inventing uses for old and found materials, often incorporating leftover bits of former projects, studies, and personal mementos. Her works create an abstracted personal narrative, fondly referred to as “Indiscriminate Storytelling,” evoking absurdity, contradiction, and memories lost-and-found. Cassandra received a BS in Art Education with a studio focus in Fibers from Appalachian State University (Boone, North Carolina). She founded and operated Shelf Life Art & Supply Co., a new-and-used art supply store, in Greensboro, North Carolina from 2014-2020. Cassandra has had artist residencies at Greensboro Residency for Original Works and Elsewhere Museum (Greensboro, North Carolina), and has taught public and private art lessons to students from ages 2-104, including at the North Carolina Museum of Art (Raleigh, North Carolina) and assistantships at Arrowmont School of Crafts (Gatlinburg, TN). Cassandra is now pursuing her MFA in Textiles from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.
