Biography —
Ashleigh's art is influenced by the cross-section of textiles that have had a personal impact on her life, exploring sustainable practices, and introducing new technology into her work. In her family sewing has been a generational tradition to pass down from mother to daughter. She found love in fashion and garment construction but several of her grandmothers made gorgeous hand-stitched quilts. Ashleigh pulls inspiration from the repeating motives, textures, and colors found in these quilts. She merged the family's old techniques, passed down with new, more contemporary methodologies. The importance of this lies in its capacity to bridge generations and carry a sense of cultural continuity and craftsmanship. Incorporating these time-honored methods into contemporary fiber art not only preserves cultural legacies but also infuses the artwork with a deep personal connection.
