Biography

Born and raised in the Midwest, Anne graduated in Spring 2019 with a BA in Studio Art and Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies from Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA. In May 2020, they completed a graduate certificate concentrated in hand papermaking at University of Iowa Center for the Book in Iowa City, IA.

In their current work, they consider the excess of usable clothing being produced due to global capitalism, and what happens to this clothing once it is discarded. They create sculptures that expose the forms of retail clothing racks naked of the clothes for sale that usually cover them, while also clothing them in skins made from discarded secondhand clothing destined for the landfill. They focus specifically on the consumption and disposal habits in their immediate community, and source many of their materials from local thrift stores. They connect this local material culture with broader historical and geographical practices, referencing traditional American craft practices used historically to repurpose old clothing such as quilting, rag rug making, and hand papermaking.
