Visual Art Scholarship Award Application Form

Online Application Deadline: Spring 2020 Information coming soon

Each year the Department of Visual Art awards scholarships to continuing students majoring in visual art. This is an important opportunity for students to exhibit their work and possibly earn a scholarship. Participating students are required to submit a body of work for the jurying process. Submitted artwork will be installed and exhibited on the fourth floor in Chalmers Hall.

Participating students will be assigned a space to display their work at a mandatory meeting (see schedule). A committee of seven faculty members, one from each studio area, will jury the student work displayed in the exhibition and award scholarships for 2019-20. All eligible Visual Art students are encouraged to participate. Participating students also must sign up for a committee to help with the exhibition. Failure to sign up for work or failure to perform work could result in ineligibility of receiving scholarship funding. Sign up for a committee to help with the exhibition will be at the mandatory meeting. If you can’t attend the meeting email Professor Matt Burke

An opening event will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2019, 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibition is open to the public, and students are encouraged to invite friends and family to the exhibition. At the same time, graduate and undergraduate studios will be open to visitors. In addition, the Ceramics, Textiles, Metalsmithing/Jewelry, Sculpture, and Printmaking studios will be open to feature student work that may not be included in the scholarship competition. Visitors are invited to tour all the studios to see the exceptional quality and variety of creative work being made at KU.

Eligibility requirements for scholarship consideration:

Official major in the Department of Visual Art
Continued, full-time enrollment as a Visual Art major for 2019-20*
3.0 overall GPA**

*If fewer than 12 credit hours are needed to meet graduation requirements, less than full-time enrollment is possible with department approval.
**Exceptions are sometimes made to the GPA requirement. Applicants can provide a written appeal and rationale on the online form.
For example: the cumulative GPA is lower than 3.0, but is expected to meet the requirement after the current grading period, OR there are other extenuating circumstances affecting the current KU GPA.

I acknowledge and willingly submit my artwork to this competitive exhibition for scholarships. I understand the Department of Visual Art and the University of Kansas will not be responsible for any property that is submitted. Limited security arrangements will be utilized but the risk is mine. There is no insurance or other form of reimbursement for lost, damaged, or stolen goods. I accept this responsibility as part of my submission of artwork to this scholarship judging and exhibition. I also understand that if I am selected to receive a scholarship, I must be enrolled for credit in the Department of Visual Art during the period of the scholarship, and that the department may temporarily retain submitted work and use images for publication purposes. I understand that my work must stay in the exhibition until the official closing. If work is removed earlier, then I will be ineligible for scholarship funding. In addition, I understand that I must sign up and perform some committee work to help with the exhibition.
