Academic Advising for Visual Art Majors

If you are considering an undergraduate degree in Visual Art at KU, you are encouraged to visit the campus and tour the Department of Visual Art. You may also want to schedule a pre-admission advising appointment with the Undergraduate Advisor to get a sense of the academic life of an art major.

Once you have been admitted to work toward a B.F.A., B.A., or B.A.E., you will meet with the Undergraduate Advisor each semester until you complete 12 hours of foundations courses, usually two semesters. At this point, you will be assigned a Faculty Advisor who will help you plan your course of study as you move toward graduation.

During the semester prior to your expected graduation, you will need to meet again with the Undergraduate Advisor to double check that all graduation requirements can be met by the intended graduation date. The Advisor will help you prepare your required graduation paperwork.

Degree checklists are available online or from the Visual Art office. Additional History of Art information is available from the Kress Foundation Department of Art History »
